Let me ask you a question.  Where is hope?  When your world is crashing in around you where do you go?  Ok that was two questions.  Just a thought.

“My Horn Is Lifted High!”

Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. “There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.  “Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.  “The bows of the warriors are broken, but those who stumbled are armed with strength.  Those who were full hire themselves out for food, but those who were hungry hunger no more. She who was barren has borne seven children, but she who has had many sons pines away. “The LORD brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. “For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s; upon them he has set the world. He will guard the feet of his saints, but the wicked will be silenced in darkness. “It is not by strength that one prevails; those who oppose the LORD will be shattered. He will thunder against them from heaven; the LORD will judge the ends of the earth. “He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed.”

This is Hannah’s prayer which can be found in 1Samuel 2.  I hope it brings you joy in the LORD today.  I hope it helps you see that what is going on in this world today is no accident.  May it bring you hope for today and for the future.

“Greetings”

Greetings Earthlings from planet “Me”!  How would that make you feel if I came up and greeted you in this manner?  OK, well maybe not me but let’s say if a stranger came up to you and greeted you this way?  Today all we get is a “what’s up” or here in Texas we get the occasional “Howdy” and sometimes a hardy “Hello”.  But back in Old Testament times you had greetings such as can be found in the book of Ruth 2:4 Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, “The LORD be with you!”
”The LORD bless you!” they called back.

Now there’s a greeting!  I guess it was just as common as our hellos.  But their greetings had blessings attached to them.  Want to freak someone out today?  When they walk into your office tell them “The LORD be with you” and see how they react.  I bet the only response you will get besides a dumbfounded look will be a thank you or a repeat of what you said.  Look through the Bible and check out the greetings that are used many of them come with a blessing.  So maybe we should start blessing others with our greetings.  I mean come on our friends and families are blessings, right?

“Peace! Do Not Be Afraid”

Yeah I am stuck on Gideon.  Once the LORD sent His angel to consume the offerings Gideon had prepared he was at peace knowing it was God and that God wasn’t going to kill him.  You see god cannot be in the presence of sin so when the LORD was speaking directly to Gideon he was afraid of dieing because of that.  Gideon’s other doubt though puzzles me but God allowed the tests anyway.  Gideon tested three times to see if it was really God speaking.  How many times do we test to see if it is God speaking?  When you hear, “Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.”  I personally think that would be enough for me to agree that it is God speaking to me.  Because satan doesn’t want to bring me peace nor does he want me to live and he always wants me to be in fear.  Besides I don’t have any fleece to lay out on the threshing room floor oh wait I don’t even have a threshing room.  I do recommend you test the spirit that comes upon you.  Test what is spoken to you.  Does it line up with Scripture?  If it doesn’t then I would be concerned about who is really speaking to you.  Peace! Do not be afraid for if God is there you will be at total peace.  His burden is light.

Judges 6

Key Verse:

Judges 6:37
look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.”
Judges 6:36-38 (in Context) Judges 6 (Whole Chapter)

“Gideon”

The LORD answered, “I will be with you…” How cool that must have been for Gideon to hear God say those words to him.  Gideon was called upon by the LORD to defeat the enemies of Israel and in this case the Midianites.  Gideon had the weakest clan in Israel and Gideon was let’s say heavily concerned and anxious to say the least of what God had called for him to do.  I know if God had told me to take my family and go defeat a nation I would be a little nervous too.  But the LORD reassured Gideon: The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”  Well duh!  God is sending you it cannot fail!  Do you struggle with the things God has called you to do?  Oh man that is way to big for me to handle!  If I had a dime for every time I thought that, I would have a dime because after God showed me His awesome power to prevail I didn’t doubt Him.  Oh wait that was a lie, Lord forgive me I repent.  If I had a dime for every time I thought that I would have a dime for every time He has called me to do something big.  Maybe it is just human nature to have fear when a God sized project comes forth.  But know this if God sends you to it He will get you through it.

Judges 6

Judges 6:14
The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”

Where do you find your power?  No, not electricity!  The power you need to get through the day.  Is it in a man made product?  Just a thought.

“The Song of Deborah”

No I don’t have a new girlfriend!  Deborah was a wise woman in the Old Testament.  She took out an evil king by the name of Sisera.  He came to her to hide him from death and when he asked for water she gave him milk.  When he asked for a place to hide she threw a cover over him and when he thought he was safe she drove a tent stake through his temple.  Deborah was a prophetess and was held in high honor and when it came time for a battle the king of the time Barak was afraid and wouldn’t go into battle without her by his side.  Wrong thing to do!  A woman back in those times was not to hold places of honor bestowed upon a man by God and she warned Barak that he would be shamed by his decision because God gave her the ability to defeat the evil king Sisera.  Pretty powerful stuff a highly recommended read for you men out there you can find it in Judges 4 and finish up with Deborah’s song in Judges 5.

Happy Chinese new year the year of the Ox and also Happy Australia Day to my friends down under.

Judges 5

Key verse:

Judges 5:31
“So may all your enemies perish, O LORD! But may they who love you be like the sun when it rises in its strength.” Then the land had peace forty years.
Judges 5:30-31 (in Context) Judges 5 (Whole Chapter)

Jesus Bless you,

Pastor Steve
