The Miracles of Jesus Part 6 of 35

“Jesus Heals A Paralytic”

From:

Matthew 9:1-8

Mark 2:1-12

Luke 5:17-26

Luke 5:17-26 (New International Version)

17One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick. 18Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.

20When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

21The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, “Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

22Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, “Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? 24But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins….” He said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 25Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.”

I see two miracles here, how about you?  There is the one obvious one the healing of the paralytic and the other 22Jesus knew what they were thinking.

Now I don’t know about you but I can guess what people are thinking and I can feel like I may know what someone is thinking but Jesus “knew” what they were thinking.  If Jesus knew then what these people were thinking is it possible that He knows what you are thinking?  I tell you that He knows now and has heard every thought in your mind for we cannot hide what is in our thought from the One who created us.  Therefore repent of those unclean thoughts and be careful to remember even those thoughts you thunk can be heard.

The Miracles of Jesus Part 5 of 35

“A Sick Woman is Healed”

From:

Matthew 9:20-22

Mark 5:25-34

Luke 8:43-48

Mark 5:25-34 (New International Version)

A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” 29Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

30At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

31“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

32But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

This woman knew in her heart that Jesus could heal her.  Just by touching his clothes was enough in her mind.  I tell you that just being in the presence of Jesus Christ and having the faith that He will heal you is enough to be healed.  This woman went to doctor after doctor and spent all her money on a healing from men and men couldn’t heal her. “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” In the Bible there are many places that Jesus told the person that was healed that it is their faith that heals them.  Jesus tells us that the faith of a mustard seed can move mountains.  I am not saying fire your doctors because God uses them too.  I am saying put your faith into the hands of Christ for that healing and the medicine the doctor gives is that much more affective in your healing process.  Oh don’t get me wrong on that account either because when Jesus sets you free you are free indeed.  Ask for the touch of Christ and He does heal instantaneously from any bondage you may be in but don’t get mad at Him when it doesn’t happen because His plan is not our plan and His ways are not our ways.  His love is beyond us and all we can do is strive to love as He loves.  You can read about His love in 1 Corinthians 13.  Just know that you are loved.

Peace and Agape Love,

Pastor Steve

The United States Government recognizes the Provisional Government as the de facto authority of the new State of Israel.

— President Harry S.Truman, May 14, 1948

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The world that emerged from the throes of the Second World War bore little resemblance to the one that existed on the eve of that terrible conflict. Perhaps the most significant shift involved the world powers. The Western European nations, especially the once-great British Empire, lost their domination of the world stage. Asian and African nations were able to achieve independence from colonial rule. At war’s end, the United States and the Soviet Union emerged as the major political entities, or “superpowers.” The U.S. became the backer of the Western European nations and helped rebuild them, while the U.S.S.R. dominated the Eastern European nations. Differences in political and social ideology led to rivalry between the two superpowers. For almost fifty years, they vied for influence in the Near East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, waging a “Cold War.”

This unstable world situation was an important factor in Jewish history. The creation of the state of Israel, for example, was originally approved by both superpowers. In time, however, Israel closely allied itself with the U.S.

Since its establishment, Israel has managed to survive five full-scale wars with its Arab neighbors, including the War of Independence (1948), the Suez Campaign (1956), the Six Day War (1967), the Yom Kippur War (1973), and the Lebanon War (1982). Each of these wars has left its mark on Israeli society. The Six Day War, which brought hundreds of thousands of Palestinians under Israeli rule, was a turning point for both Israelis and Palestinians. The debate within Israel over how best to achieve peace intensified. The two main camps—those in favor of giving up land for peace and those determined to keep control of the captured territories—became more and more polarized. At the same time, the Palestinian resistance movement increasingly turned to violent acts of terrorism. In late 1987, unrest in the West Bank erupted into a prolonged period of streetfighting known as the Intifada. International pressure on Israeli and Arab leaders to negotiate an end to the conflict has grown. A series of peace agreements negotiated in the 1990s led to hope that lasting peace was on the horizon, but there have since been many setbacks to the peace process.

Meanwhile, Israeli society has continued to evolve. Since its inception, it has absorbed many waves of immigration. The most recent influxes have been from Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union. The schism between “hawks” and “doves” has been accompanied by mounting tensions between religious and secular Jews and between Ashkenazim and Sephardim. In 1995, the assassination of Prime Minister Yizhak Rabin by a right-wing extremist who opposed his government’s negotiated peace settlement with the Palestinians threw Israel into turmoil.

American Jewish life has also changed greatly since the Second World War. The destruction of former centers of Jewish life in Europe left American Jewry the largest Jewish community in the world. Having ardently participated in the fight against Hitler— America’s and Jewry’s common foe—most American Jews were now confident that they were entitled to full participation in American society. The younger generation was willing to leave traditional Jewish enclaves in cities and settle in the suburbs or new urban centers, such as Miami and Los Angeles. Many took advantage of postwar prosperity and a decline in prejudice to work in new areas in the economy.

At the beginning of the 21st century, Jews around the world continue to grapple with what it means to be a Jew in the modern world. Although there has never been an easy answer to the question, “Who is a Jew?,” the issue of identity seems especially complex in an era of great diversity in Jewish life. In Israel, some wonder: Is being Israeli synonymous with being Jewish? If so, how is Jewishness more than a national identity? In America, some Jews are trying to imbue Jewish ritual and theology with a new emphasis on spirituality. Others, seeking to define for themselves a secular Jewish identity, are turning to the experiences and culture of their immigrant grandparents for inspiration.

PREVIEW QUESTIONS

Answer these questions as you watch Into the Future or as you explore the accompanying multimedia presentations, historical documents, and maps.

1.Why did many Holocaust survivors feel that there was no longer any future for them in Europe?

2.Why did Great Britain restrict Jewish immigration to Palestine before, during, and after World War II? How did Jews there react?

3. Describe some of the events leading to the establishment of the state of Israel. How did the Arab nations react?

4. What role has Israel played for world Jewry since its establishment?

5.Why did Jewish consciousness revive in the Soviet Union after World War II? What led to the intensification of anti-Semitism there?

6. What political events in the 1990s led to optimism about the possibility of achieving a lasting peace between Israel, the Arab nations, and the Palestinians?

The future of the Jewish community, Gods chosen people, lies within their own free will to follow the ways of God through Jesus Christ or to continue on their path of war, being unaccepted, and threatened.  Upon the return of Christ will be their time of knowing that He is who He says He is the Great I AM and those that die without knowing Him will be tested in the Refiners Fire.  We need to pray for the Jews and bless them where we can bless them.  Our country needs to get back into the business of supporting Israel in their God given right to live in the land that God Himself has given them.  The tribes of Israel will arise again soon and we need to be supportive.  Revelation 7

From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed, from the tribe of Reuben 12,000, from the tribe of Gad 12,000, 6from the tribe of Asher 12,000, from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000, from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000, 7from the tribe of Simeon 12,000, from the tribe of Levi 12,000, from the tribe of Issachar 12,000, 8from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000, from the tribe of Joseph 12,000, from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.

The Miracles of Jesus Part 4 of 35

“Jairus’s Daughter Raised”

From:

Matthew 9:18-26

Mark 5:22-24, 35-43

Luke 8:41-42, 49-56

Mark 5:22-24

Listen to this passage

22Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet 23and pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24So Jesus went with him.

Mark 5:35-43

Listen to this passage

35While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher any more?”

36Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

37He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James. 38When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40But they laughed at him.
After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” ). 42Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.

I love it when the men came and told Jairus that his daughter was dead and Jesus just tells him not to be afraid and to just believe.  Now that is faith.  Jesus always tells the people who have been healed it is by their faith that they have been healed now here is a situation where a child has died and because of the child’s fathers belief in Jesus Christ his daughter was brought back from the dead to live again.  Do you have that kind of faith?  Do you believe that deeply that if something happened that Jesus Christ will come and say, “Talitha koum!” unless of course your child is a boy and then he would say something a little different but when Jesus says “get up” you better believe they will get up.

Peace and Agape Love,

Pastor Steve

The Miracles of Jesus Part 3 of 35

“Demons Sent Into Pigs”

From:

Matthew 8:28-34

Mark 5:1-20

Luke 8:26-39

Luke 8:26-39 (New International Version)

26They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes,[a] which is across the lake from Galilee. 27When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29For Jesus had commanded the evil[b] spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.

30Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”

”Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31And they begged him repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.

32A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into them, and he gave them permission. 33When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned.

34When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured. 37Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.

38The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39“Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.

Do you think that demons are still here?  Do you think that a demonic possession still happens?  I know we don’t hear about it much and when we do it gets so twisted out of proportion that it is like a movie with special effects.  The demonic still happens here on earth and there are still people who have issues with demons in their life and if you are one of those people and you happen to be reading this right now.  I say to the evil spirit “Go! In the name of Jesus Christ be gone!  I cast you to the feet of Jesus that you be crushed!”

Father in the name of Jesus Christ we ask that you take away the unclean spirits that may be dwelling among Your children today.  Father we know this is it’s domain and that we will have these things among us until Your triumphant return.  Lord we ask that you put a hedge of protection around us that we may be warriors against such evil in Jesus Mighty Name Amen and Amen!

For those of you that have been set free go to your families and tell them how much God has done for you and proclaim Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Peace and Agape Love,

Pastor Steve

The Miracles of Jesus Part 2 of 35

“Calming The Storm”

From:

Matthew 8:23-27

Mark 4:35-41

Luke 8:22-25

Jesus Calms the Storm

Matthew 8:23-27

23Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

26He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

27The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

Mark 4:35-41

35That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Luke 8:22-25

22One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.

24The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”

He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25“Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”

Common theme in all three is the response of the disciples, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”  If Jesus Christ has the ability to calm the physical storm on this lake don’t you think it’s possible for Him to calm the storms in your own life?  If He can do this, how much more can He do when you have problems?  When will we recognize that that storm on the lake that was washing water over the bow of the boat wasn’t enough to stop Christ and your little issue that seems to be a storm is just a light breeze to Him.  In life we will have storms but Christ has overcome those storms and through our faith in Him those storms are like a breath.  But you have to do something first.  You have to be willing to turn your life over to Him.  That’s seems like a daunting task but it is a prayer away.  It simply requires you to repent of your sin and recognize who He is and then walk with Him daily.  Once you have repented and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior there will be a change in you that will make you want to do things for Him because He rescued you and then you will want to be baptized in the name of the Father  and the Son and the Holy Spirit out of obedience to Him who rescues lives from the fire.

Peace and Agape Love,

Pastor Steve

The Miracles of Jesus

“5000 Men Are Fed” Part 1 of 35

I was praying about what to write about this morning and I asked the Lord what it is His people needed to hear that we have not touched upon yet and The Holy Spirit guided me to some pages within my study Bible that I didn’t know were there and I now have about a years worth of PraPs to write LOL.  The first in our series is “The Miracles of Jesus” and we will look at each of the 35 listed in my study even though there are so many more miracles that were done by Christ

1. 5,000 people are fed

a.      Matthew 14:15-21

b.     Mark 6:35-44

c.      Luke 9:12-17

d.     John 6:5-14

Matthew 14:15-21 (New International Version)

15As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”

16Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

17“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.

18“Bring them here to me,” he said. 19And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.

I really want you to notice verse 21 here it says that there were 5,000 men so the miracle here is that there were likely about 10,000 people in all there that Jesus fed with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.  The Bible is very man-centric and when there are numbers in it they are likely only counting the men.  We just have to take into consideration the women and children that were likely there as well.  We have to look at the Jewish culture of the time as well to get the full understanding of what actually went on that day.  This is why we are playing the programs Heritage: Civilization and the Jews so that we can get a better understanding of the Jewish culture and also another reason why the Torah is so important to us as Christians.  This is a good start to our study and our continued learning about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His plan for our lives not just here on Earth but for our eternity with Him.  Walk with Jesus daily.

Peace and Agape Love,

Pastor Steve

Heritage: Civilization and the Jews “Out Of the Ashes 1919-1947”

First the Nazis came for the Communists; and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews; and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. When they came for the trade unionists I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a trade unionist. And when they came for the Catholics I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me… and by that time there was no one left to speak for anyone.

— Attributed to Pastor Martin Niemoeller

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

People everywhere fervently hoped that the First World War would be “the war to end all wars. ”However, that conflict merely served to inaugurate thirty years of turmoil that culminated in yet another war, the most destructive and horrifying in history. Before World War II was over, European Jewry was dealt the severest blow it had ever endured: Six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust.

The end of World War I paved the way for major political transformations in Western Europe. In 1918,the German Empire collapsed and Kaiser Wilhelm fled. The Weimar Republican experiment in liberal democracy, was born. In Russia in November 1917,the Bolsheviks, led by Lenin and Trotsky, established a new regime, the Soviet Union, and implemented revolutionary social and economic reforms. Jewish communities from the Rhine to the Volga were swept up in the sudden political changes. The Russian Revolution brought Jews emancipation, while the Weimar Republic allowed them full participation in German life.

In Eastern Europe, a new political map was drawn. From the ruins of the Austro-Hungarian and Russian empires rose Austria, Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Their independence was guaranteed by the Versailles Peace Conference of 1919. In these new states, however, Jews found that discrimination and anti-Semitism persisted.

The year 1917 was also critical in the history of the Zionist movement. The British government issued the Balfour Declaration, which sanctioned “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.”

The 1920s were an age of experimentation in the life-styles, art, and literature— and a time of deep discontent. The painting, architecture, music, fiction, and theater of this era express excitement and hope, as well as anxiety and pessimism.

In Germany, the promise of the Weimar era was foreclosed by economic depression. Through demagoguery and violence, Hitler transformed the anti-Semitic Nazi movement from a fringe element to the ruling party. Upon coming to power, the Nazis made anti-Semitism official state policy by enacting discriminatory laws, instigating violence against the Jews, and spreading racist propaganda.

In 1938,world leaders acquiesced when Hitler annexed Austria and occupied much of Czechoslovakia.  When Germany invaded Poland in 1939, however, Britain and France declared war.

Upon invading Poland, the Nazis took their anti-Semitic campaign further. Before the outbreak of war, their main efforts centered on isolating Jews through legislation and sporadic acts of violence, restricting Jewish livelihoods, confiscating Jewish property, and encouraging emigration. In Poland, they were confronted with the largest Jewish population in Europe. The Nazis forcibly segregated the Jews into sealed ghettos, where many died of starvation and disease. In 1941,when Hitler abrogated a nonaggression pact with Stalin and invaded  Russia, the Nazis began a systematic program of genocide. Via mass executions, they murdered hundreds of thousands of Jews in the formerly Soviet-held territories. By 1942,the y had devised a more efficient means of annihilation: the death camp. Millions of Jews and other people from all over Europe were brought to six industrial killing centers in Poland, where most were murdered in gas chambers and others worked and starved to death.

On May 9,1945,after six devastating years, Great Britain and the United States proclaimed victory in Europe. The total number of World War II fatalities was estimated at a staggering thirty million. Six million of them were Jews. Nearly two-thirds of the entire Jewish population of Europe had been murdered.

Many of the Jewish survivors hoped to leave Europe and reconstruct their lives in Palestine. But restrictions on immigration, promulgated by the British White Paper of 1939,prevented their entry. They had to wait in displaced-persons camps until the creation of the state of Israel in 1948 During this period, Jewry moved from the verge of annihilation to the threshold of national independence.

Answer these questions as you watch Out of the Ashes or as you explore the accompanying multimedia presentations, historical documents, and maps.

1. How well were Jews assimilated in European society between World War I and World War II? How did the situation differ from country to country?

2. What steps led to the Nazis achieving control of the government?

3.Why did most Germans fail to protest Kristallnacht?

4. How did Nazis tighten the screws of anti-Semitism after 1942? What was the Wannsee Conference?

5. How did the Nazis deceive the Jews they murdered?

6. Give examples of Jewish resistance to the Nazis. Why was it so hard to mount an armed resistance?

7.How did the Danes and some Dutch resistance fighters defy Nazi attempts to deport Jews?

Lesson Plans

Session 8 of 9, which speaks of the Holocaust and the loss of so many people, we have to be sure as we move forward in life to be cautious as to not let anything like this ever take place again.  History repeats itself but through education it can be averted.

Peace and Agape Love,

Pastor Steve

“We All Go Baaaaa”

Matthew 25:31-46

31“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

41“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45“He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

So no matter if you are a sheep or a goat you will be before the Father in Heaven.  Depending on your choices in life you will either go into eternal life or eternal torment.  All I can say is it sucks to be a goat after you take your last breath.  For those of you who think you will be reincarnated you better hope your not a goat when you reappear.  It’s just another game of eternity roulette.  Do I follow Jesus or not?

“Temptation”

Luke 4:1-13

1Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, 2where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

3The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”

4Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.” (Deut. 8:3)

5The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. 6And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. 7So if you worship me, it will all be yours.”

8Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.” (Deut. 6:13)

9The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. 10For it is written:
” ‘He will command his angels concerning you
      to guard you carefully;
11they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91:11,12)

12Jesus answered, “It says: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” (Deut. 6:16)

13When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.

Can we succeed in the same way that Jesus succeeded?  Is our willpower over temptation that strong?  For many of us the answer is no.  But why can’t we be that strong?  Is it a lack of faith?  Is it a lack of training?  Maybe we just don’t think we are worthy and give in to temptation?  What ever your excuse is Christ defeated temptation for us and in Him is where our strength should come.  Know Him and following Him and being in His presence will help defeat temptation.  When temptation is laid before you seek out the One who defeated temptation and you too will have the power that Christ has over the tempter.  Easier said than done, I know, but we must stand firm and then we must stand.
