250 Events In The Life Of Christ/ A Harmony Of The Gospels Part 146

Section 2: Message And Ministry Of Jesus

“Jesus Heals The Crippled Woman”

Luke 13:10-17

10 On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11 and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” 13 Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

14 Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”

15 The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? 16 Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”

17 When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.

Those who boast of knowing know nothing indeed.  If they had known who Jesus was they would have been on their knees before Him.  The woman healed praised God immediately for her healing.  Even then the people back then got enjoyment out of seeing people in high places get humiliated.  It all gives more warning to those in high places that if you boast of your knowledge of the law the law will judge you.  Everything we think we know we don’t know because we cannot comprehend the things of God.  His thinking is above ours and if anyone says they know Him they don’t.  All we can do is strive to know Him and the only One that knows Him is Christ alone.  The only people that will get to know God are those chosen by Christ and Christ will only take those who love Him and live in the ways that He has taught and still teaches today. Matthew 22:37-39   37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Here are some great words of wisdom from Deuteronomy 6:4-9

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.[a] 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

Peace and Agape Love,

Pastor Steve
